Periodically, there will be news we want to share with members, guests, and family. Visit this website periodically to get updates on the VFA, its people, birds, and dogs.
​For 2025, the picnic is set for Saturday August 9, location TBD.

Annual Picnic, Auction, and Meeting

Where:       Eastern Montgomery Park
                    5001 Enterprise Dr., Elliston, VA 24087

 






Directions:         Take exit 128 off I-81, to VA 603/North Fork Rd headed toward US 11/Ironto. After 2.3 miles, turn left onto                                Roanoke Road/460 for 2/10 mile, then turn left onto Enterprise Rd. to the Park just past the Elliston Vol.                                    Fire Dpt.

                            Take exit 132 off I-81 (VA 647) toward Dixie Caverns. At the end of the ramp turn right on 647, and turn                                    right again in a tenth of a mile onto US 460 West. About 3 miles on your right, you’ll turn onto Enterprise                                  Rd. to the park just past the Elliston Vol Fire Dpt.

11:00AM:  Socializing of members & guests.
 
     Space includes lawn area and shelter w/picnic tables:
     Don't forget to bring a lawn/camp chair and bug spray.
    WE ALSO REQUEST THAT ALL VFA MEMBERS BRING AN ITEM TO DONATE TO THE FUNDRAISING AUCTION (please see              next pg. for ideas).
 
12:00PM: LUNCH!!
 
     Provided by “The Chicken Bus” offering a barbecued chicken half, homemade sourdough bread, creamy coleslaw, bacon      mac 'n cheese, and a choice of beverages including sodas, tea, and water. Cost is $12.00 per person.
     Desserts will be provided by VFA members.
 
                                                                 RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.
 
      Individuals are welcome to bring their own lunches, but if you plan to eat the catered meal please
                                     RSVP Marc by Wednesday, August 10th (you can pay on site)

                                                     No RSVP .... No Chicken for you!!

 

 
1:30PM Membership Meeting - Members and guests are welcome
 
2:30PM (or earlier) – Auction
 
     Falconry Equipment (from jesses to telemetry) artwork, books, tools, beating sticks & field equipment, hand-made items,      safety equipment, hand-making raw materials, hawk food processing tools, training pieces, used/new, and more!
     (This is our major fundraiser — so bring your money or checkbook and participate)
 
5:00 - 6:00PM – Departure to home or to dinner (Dutch treat at a restaurant)
 
Notes:
  • VFA members, family and guests are welcome to attend all the VFA activities  (i.e., the picnic, meeting, and auction) including any informal gatherings.  If you live close enough, please bring a dessert to share.
  • The 2016 HawkTalk will be distributed to VFA members
  • Please bring your raptor(s)—there is shade for weathering and we will have a tent and a fenced area for birds
  • Many hotel and restaurant options are available in the region. Elliston is midway between Christiansburg and Salem/Roanoke for lots of inexpensive lodging options.
