February Meet in Winchester Cancelled

2/16/2018

February Self-Directed Mini Meets
Invite your falconer friends to hunt with you one day this weekend.
Get together and scout places that could work for next year’s February meet.

The February meet is need of revitalization. The I-81 corridor has provided us with bountiful game for over 3 decades. As the northern parts of that corridor continually urbanize, game and easy access to land has dwindled. That means finding a new and accessible location somewhere else in the state. Moreover, the hotel views the VFA as a cash cow.

The Grave's Mountain Lodge meet was promising, but not enough people signed up on time this year for the owners to open the facility in the off-season for us. As a result, there will be no formal February meet next weekend.

You know your corner of the state the best and you know what makes for a successful meet: rabbits & squirrels on friendly land, a hotel that accommodates pets, and a restaurant that can host two dozen people. Lexington, Lynchburg, Roanoke, Southside?

We have an email list that includes only permitted falconers. Send me the details of your informal get-togethers, and I can spread the word. Then, let us know what you find.

Have fun getting together and discovering new places next weekend.
