Meets and News

Periodically, there will be news we want to share with members, guests, and family. Visit this website periodically to get updates on the VFA, its people, birds, and dogs.
​For 2025, the picnic is set for Saturday August 9, Lake Arrowhead, Luray. A flyer will be posted on this website with times and menu options once we get closer to August. Check this website in the morning of the picnic to make sure we have not moved the picnic to an indoor venue because of inclement weather or other issues.

Location: VFA Headquarters will again be at the Travelodge Motel – 160 Front Royal Pike Winchester Virginia 
​
Directions: The Travel Lodge Motel is very near exit #313 of Rt. I-81. It is in the Southeast corner at the intersection of Routes 50 and I-81 https://goo.gl/maps/CV8PWNwDtyR2
 
Call the motel at (540) 665-0685 to make your reservation soon. Tell them you are with the VFA if you want to be located with us and get a reduced room rate. 
 
Meet Schedule
Friday 16 
Noon - Meet Starts – individual/informal hawking groups 
5:30 PM - Meet in the hotel meeting Room (Room 336) to form informal dinner parties 
8:00 PM – Board of Directors & Officers Meeting – Officers and Directors only 29 February, 
 
Saturday 17 
7:00 AM -     Breakfast next door at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant or in motel lobby 
9:00 AM –    Falconers and their invited guests meet outside of motel lobby for group
                          picture 
9:30 AM –   Falconers & invited guests form hunting parties 
Noon –         Informal lunch wherever you choose 1:00 PM re-form hunting groups 
6:45 PM -    VFA Banquet at the Green Turtle: 185 Kernerstown Blvd

                    A brief membership meeting, the awarding of game pins, and tales of best flights                  will follow dinner. Please make your banquet reservations on the attendance sheet               posted on the door of VFA Headquarters (Room 336) or with the Meet director, Gene               Stevans, by 12:00pm Saturday. 
 
Sunday 18 
7:30 AM -    Breakfast at Cracker Barrel Restaurant or in motel lobby 
9:00 AM -    Meet at motel lobby to form hunting parties 
Noon -         Lunch and reform hunting groups Meet is completed as/when members and  
                        their guests return home 
 
** In the case of inclement weather forecasts, please bring a “How-To” or skill (plus materials) to share with the group. Be prepared to participate in learning something new. 
 
We strongly suggest attendees arrive on Friday in time to find hunting sites and acquire permission to hunt. The Board requests that those attending the meet sign the sheet on the VFA Headquarters’ door (Room 336), and also indicate in its center column the number of people in your group that will attend the Saturday banquet. The game taken list will also be available. List your raptor type and all quarry taken during the meet on the sheet provided in Room 336. If the quarry is taken on Sunday or after your departure, please inform Andrew King by email on [email protected]. Bring your telemetry receivers to take part in the treasure hunt!! Prizes will be awarded! Details to be shared at the meet.
